The staff physician in the Pulmonary Section of Medical Service will be responsible for attending in a 15 bed interdisciplinary Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit, attending on the Pulmonary and Sleep consultation services, and attending in outpatient clinics at the Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Livermore Divisions. Duties to include: Provide specialized pulmonary, critical care medicine, and sleep medicine diagnosis and treatment to patients at the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System. Attend in the Medical Surgical ICU (MSICU), on the inpatient consultation services, in the outpatient clinics, in the bronchoscopy suite, and on other clinical services covered by the Pulmonary Section. Serve as primary attending for patients in the MSICU. Perform invasive procedures for which s/he has been trained and granted privileges. Interpret pulmonary function tests and sleep studies, including level 1 and level 3 sleep studies. Participate in process improvement and quality assurance projects and other assigned administrative duties. Teach, train, and mentor fellows, residents, and medical students. Participate in the educational activities of the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine in the Stanford University School of Medicine. Perform other duties as assigned by the section chief.
