Posting title: Outpatient Palliative Care Physician, Penn Medicine
The Department of Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks experienced physician candidates for a faculty opportunity in outpatient palliative medicine.
Penn Medicine Palliative Care is a national leader in palliative care, working to ease the burdens of those facing serious illness through outstanding clinical care, comprehensive educational programs, and innovative research. Penn Medicine Palliative Care consists of robust inpatient teams at all six Penn Medicine hospitals, three thriving outpatient clinics for both oncology and non-oncology patients, and a strong home-based palliative care program. In addition, Penn Medicine Palliative Care partners with the award-winning Penn Medicine Hospice to ensure seamless transitions across settings and goals of care. The program also serves as a core teaching site for medical students, residents, and fellows.
This outpatient faculty physician will provide direct patient care at the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine, with a focus on patients with non-cancer diagnoses such as heart failure, advanced lung disease, and end-stage renal disease. As part of a growing virtual visit program, the physician will also complete telemedicine visits for seriously ill patients in their home. While primary responsibility will be in the outpatient setting, the physician will have the opportunity to practice inpatient palliative medicine as part of a large interdisciplinary consult team at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
The successful candidate will also be eligible for appointment in the non-tenure academic clinician track as a core faculty member in palliative care. Many opportunities exist for direct teaching and curriculum design for medical students, residents, and fellows.
Fellowship training in Hospice and Palliative Medicine is strongly preferred. The academic clinician track requires 100 credits per year of active and high quality teaching responsibilities. Experience in the provision of outpatient palliative care is preferred.
We seek candidates who embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense. The University of Pennsylvania is an EOE. Minorities/women/individuals with disabilities/protected veterans are encouraged to apply.
Board certification or eligibility in Hospice and Palliative Medicine is required.
