Dr. Sue Mukherjee, our current pediatric physiatrist is a former fellowship director from RIC/Shirley Ryan Ability lab. Dr. Mukherjee takes over a long standing and world renowned spinal cord injury rehab and research program from Dr. Larry Vogel.
The PM&R Physician we’re looking for is responsible for coordinating with other senior medical leadership in the organization of the overall direction, management, and care of Shriners Hospitals for Children – Chicago’ rehabilitation program. Primary goal is to provide the highest quality of rehabilitative care for children treated in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. A specialty physician that assists with the delivery of medical and rehabilitation care to meet the pathophysiology, impairment, functional limitation, societal barriers, personal barriers, and barriers to the health care delivery system that may be associated with pediatric disease and disability. The Pediatric Physiatrist will work closely and collaboratively with members of the medical staff, administration, governing body, staff and volunteers to deliver the highest quality of care within their scope of practice
The program offers all levels of care including inpatient, day rehab (intensive outpatient) and outpatient rehab. In addition to PT, OT and Speech, child life and recreation therapy are active in treatment plans, and there is a pool onsite as well as the latest in rehab technology equipment. In addition to SCI rehab, we offer interdisciplinary care for other acute neurologic and trauma conditions, as well as post orthopedic surgery rehab for children with neurologic conditions such as CP, spina bifida and arthrogryposis.
Outpatient rehab clinics with multidisciplinary care are available for neuromuscular conditions, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, arthrogryposis, brachial plexus injury and SCI. There are opportunities for procedures with operating room and sedation room on site with support staff. [Gait lab (movement analysis center) research and clinic activity is encouraged.]
Shriners Hospitals for Children, Chicago is pursuing building a consulting service at partner children hospitals to further develop inpatient rehab referrals.
